Aletheia Preston

The story of

Aletheia Preston was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and moved to Florence, Italy when she was six years old, where she lived for four years with her family. She then moved to Round Pond, Maine during her high school years. She graduated from Lewis & Clark College with a B.A. degree in Political Science, after which she attended the University of San Francisco School of Law, from which she obtained a Juris Doctor degree with an intellectual property certificate. Aletheia passed the California bar exam on the first try and started practice as a prosecutor in the DA’s office in San Mateo County. Later she moved into private practice as a trial attorney. In 2024 she left law to embark on her journey as a writer.

Aletheia had been writing since she was a little girl, and it has always been her dream to be a writer. Her science-fiction novel, The Floating Cities, was featured on the now-defunct website Figment when she was fifteen years old. Aletheia is an avid reader of science fiction and thrillers. Her favorite authors include Isaac Asimov, Stephen King, Orson Scott Card, Frank Herbert, Frederik Pohl, and Adrian Tchaikovsky.

Aletheia and her father, Douglas, began writing together when she was four—with Aletheia dictating fantastical stories about butterflies and unicorns, and Doug dutifully writing them down. Solitary Lake is Aletheia and Doug’s first book together, which incorporates Aletheia’s legal expertise and love of science fiction with Doug’s mastery of the thriller genre.

An admitted adrenaline junkie, Aletheia spends much of her free time outdoors finding ways to risk her life, from skiing and mountaineering to paragliding and winter camping. Aletheia is also a PADI certified deepwater and wreck scuba diver. She is fluent in Italian and Spanish.

Aletheia and her cat Mochi live in the wine country of California.
